In 1996, Thomas Walter sold the practice to his associates, Gordon D. Putnam and Andrew Lawson. As a result of a coin toss, a new partnership was formed and the firm became Putnam & Lawson.
In 2014, Samantha C. Huculak started with Putnam & Lawson, working primarily in Family Law, Residential Real Estate and Wills.
In January 2021, Samantha joined Gordon D. Putnam as a partner and the firm was renamed Putnam Law LLP. Andrew Lawson continued to practice in a half-time capacity as General Counsel.
On June 1, 2022, Samantha became Managing Partner as Gord was appointed the bench of the Provincial Court of Alberta, now the Alberta Court of Justice.
On January 1, 2025, with the retirement of Andrew Lawson, the firm became PL Law. This name represents an homage to Andrew and Gord and the legal services they provided to the community for over 25 years.
PL Law provides legal services to our clients in a wide range of areas, including Real Estate, Subdivision, Rezoning & Development, Corporate, Family Law, Wills & Estates, Personal Injury, and Notary Public and Commissioner for Oaths services.
The PL Law team contributes time and talent, serving the community through various volunteer efforts and board appointments.

After completing her juris doctor at the University of Saskatchewan in 2013, Samantha joined Putnam & Lawson as an articling student. She was called to the bar in May 2015 and has focused her practice in the areas of Family Law, Residential Real Estate, and Wills & Estates.
Samantha regularly appears before the Provincial Court of Alberta and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta.
In 2021, Samantha joined the new firm Putnam Law LLP as a partner and in June 2022, became the managing partner.
Community involvement is important to Samantha. She is a board member of the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation and former board member and Vice-President of the Morinville and District Chamber of Commerce. Samantha is also a member of the Rotary Club of Morinville Sturgeon.

Lawyer
Mikle was born in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories and grew up in the Grande Prairie, Alberta region. She attended the University of Alberta where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Law degrees. Mikle was called to the bar in 2003. Mikle returned to the Grande Prairie region where she worked as a lawyer for many years at Darryl Carter & Co. in Grande Prairie.
Mikle took time off to raise four young daughters. She also has a grown son who lives in Toronto, Ontario.
Mikle moved to the area in 2021 and joined Putnam Law in August 2022, bringing her years of legal experience to the firm.

Born in St Andrew’s, Scotland, Andrew grew up in Ontario and progressively moved west to Saskatchewan, and then Alberta. An LLB was completed in 1988 followed by articling with a large Edmonton firm, and shortly thereafter, moving to practice in Sturgeon County.
Andrew has 4 adult children pursuing diverse vocational pathways.
Throughout his career, Andrew has been involved in numerous community and charitable activities, and has served on many boards, primarily focused on disadvantaged children and youth. Andrew enjoys the pursuit of recreational challenges and has qualified and run numerous international marathons and engages in running, cycling and paddling adventures.
Andrew has appeared on behalf of clients before various regulatory tribunals and at all levels of Alberta Courts.
Andrew retired from the practice of law on December 31, 2024.

Gord’s family has deep roots in farming in Sturgeon County since the early 1900’s. Gord obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Law degrees from the University of Alberta. He moved to Morinville in 1996.
Since his call to the bar in 1992, Gord has been practicing at Putnam Law LLP, formerly Putnam & Lawson, in Gibbons and Morinville, Alberta, where he has been managing partner since 1996.
Gord was appointed a Queen’s Counsel Lawyer in 2009. Gord’s professional experience has included real estate, corporate, wills and estates, subdivision, and land development areas of law. He has appeared before many administrative tribunals and all levels of Court in Alberta.
Serving the community is an important part of Gord’s life. Gord has been involved in a number of organizations, including currently serving as the Co-President of the Rotary Club of Morinville-Sturgeon, where he been a member since 1996. He has served as Chairman of the Sturgeon County Economic Development Board and been involved with many community organizations in the Town of Morinville and Sturgeon County. He is a former Town Councilor for the Town of Morinville, having been elected in 2013.
